For the last few months we have been working with the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR) and the Shadow Ministry of Housing blog to produce a visualisation and sonification based on a year's worth of data on housing collapses in Egypt. 392 residential building collapses, resulting in 192 deaths and 824 families made homeless, were documented from July 2012 to June 2013.

EIPR's aim is to get both authorities and residents to take these building collapses more seriously, and work towards curbing such social and material loss. The organisation is also currently working on an in-depth study on building collapses, which will be released over the coming months and will include recommendations.

On our side, we'll be producing a series of blog posts detailing how we made this data representation, the challenges we faced and the decisions we made. Look out for those posts on our visualisingadovocacy.org blog, or on the Tactical Tech website.
