Thanks to everyone who came by our Security Clinic at Re:publica14!
The three-day event happened in early May at Station Berlin, and we had a fun three days in a room off the main courtyard (which we suspect may once have been the station's bathroom, going by the yellow tiled walls) giving advice, running hands-on sessions on digital security and privacy, and just generally chatting to those who ventured in.
We hope those who came by left with something useful - maybe an info flash card or two, maybe a booklet on Digital Security, maybe some new knowledge or understanding or tools installed on your laptop... or maybe just a sweet memory of a quiet ten minutes in a soft beanbag with a cup of coffee.
We met a lot of people who just wanted some tips on where to start protecting their privacy online a bit more. We have two good starting points:
Security in-a-box (https://securityinabox.org/) is a good start for hands-on advice and detailed how-tos on installing and using digital security tools (eg encryption, secure password storage, etc). Me and My Shadow (https://myshadow.org) shows you how many online traces you're leaving, and gives you advice on how to minimise these.
